Tottenham Hotspur are considering Calvin Phillips as a replacement for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Tottenham have made changes to their squad this summer. The likes of Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison, Micky van der Vaart, Manor Solomon, and Brennan Johnson have filled the void left by the departures of ‘ace’ Harry Kane, Lucas Moura, and Harry Winks. Most of these players have been promoted to the first team and now make up Spurs’ best 11.

But even in positions without reinforcements, changes have occurred. Until last season, Spurs utilized a midfield duo of Heurelho and Rodrigo Bentancur. Much was expected of ‘new boy’ Yves Bissouma, but he failed to establish himself under Antonio Conte and Pape Matasar was not considered a first-team option.

This season is different. Enze Postecoglou has revamped his midfield with Bissouma and Sarri. They are shining in the new system. Bissouma has been given a freer role and is leading Tottenham’s offense, while Sarr is the center of the buildup.

Naturally, this has reduced the role of Joevier, who has been making consistent appearances this season, but mostly as a substitute.

He was even linked with a move last summer. Atletico Madrid were linked with a move for him, while Fulham were also targeting him as a replacement for the departure of Juan Palinha.

The deal never materialized, but the player’s future remains unclear. Recently, he has been linked with a move to Juventus. Juventus had considered him as a replacement for Paul Pogba. Pogba’s career is in jeopardy as he faces up to a four-year ban for a positive doping test.

The transfer speculation continues. Tottenham have prepared for that future. According to British outlet Team Talk, Tottenham are planning a move for Phillips in the January transfer window in case of his departure. The possibility of Sarri and Bissouma being called up for the African Cup of Nations in January has also bolstered the transfer speculation.

Phillips is currently only a candidate at City. At Leeds United, he was regarded as one of the best third midfielders in the Premier League (PL), and alongside Declan Rice, he formed a solid midfield for the England national team, but since arriving at City, he has struggled. Frequent injuries have hampered his performances and he hasn’t been able to get much game time due to Rodri’s ‘crazy’ performances.

Of course, we can’t confirm the transfer. Phillips still has five years left on his contract at City, so a transfer fee would not be out of the question. Also, 스포츠토토 with squad depth so thin, it’s likely that City will try to keep their mid-season departures to a minimum.
