Tottenham defender Van der Vaart scored on his Premier League debut as Spurs moved to the top of the Premier League table with a goalless win over Luton Town.

Tottenham defeated Luton Town 1-0 away in the eighth round of the 2023-24 Premier League on Sunday (Sept. 7) in Luton, England. With the win, Tottenham remained unbeaten in the Premier League so far this season and moved to the top of the league with a record of six wins, two draws, and 20 points. Tottenham can extend their lead at the top of the league after Arsenal’s win over Manchester City on Sept. 9.

After a scoreless first half against Luton Town, Tottenham opened the scoring in the seventh minute of the second half through van der Vaart. Van der Vaart rattled the Luton Town net after dribbling down the right side of the penalty area and finishing Maddison’s pass with a left-footed shot in front of goal. Defender van der Vaart, who joined Tottenham this season, scored the winner against Luton Town on his Premier League debut to seal the win.

“It was a great game,” van der Vaan told TNT Sports after the game. “I’m really happy to score my first goal in the Premier League,” he said, “I think we showed great mental strength as a team. To finish the game with a clean sheet is the best thing for a defender. I knew Madison was going to cut back and I was standing in position. She played a perfect pass to my left foot and I slotted the ball home. It was an amazing feeling,” she said.

“When we were walking into the stadium from the team bus, Sonny (Son Heung-min’s nickname) told me, ‘You’re going to score your debut goal today.’ I replied, ‘Who knows? I scored and it was perfect,” he said, referring to Son’s pre-match prediction of his goal. 먹튀검증

Van der Vaart, who Spurs signed from Wolfsburg ahead of the season, has started all eight of Spurs’ games in the Premier League this season and has been a key defender. Spurs have been steady at the back this season, keeping three clean sheets in eight Premier League games.

Van der Vaart was steady in full-time against Luton Town, making two tackles and winning all four ball contests. Van der Vaart didn’t allow a single dribble break and completed 94% of his passes. Tottenham were outnumbered at Luton Town after Bissouma was sent off in first-half stoppage time, but van der Vaan played a key role in the win with a solid defensive performance and a goal.
