Son Heung-min has been nominated for Premier League Player of the Month for September.
The Premier League (PL) announced the nominees for the September PL Player of the Month on Friday (September 5). “The Tottenham captain excelled in his new role as a frontline striker in September. His six goals helped Spurs remain unbeaten and end the month in second place, just one point behind leaders Manchester City,” said the nomination.
Son’s September has been nothing short of spectacular. It started on the second day of the PL fourth round against Burnley. Starting as a frontline striker in place of Xherdan Shaqiri, Son scored a hat trick to lead his team to a 5-2 victory. At the same time, he surpassed former Chelsea “legend” Didier Drogba’s record of 104 goals and moved into 30th place on the PL’s all-time goalscoring list.
He didn’t find the back of the net against Sheffield United in the fifth round, but got back on the scoresheet against Arsenal in the sixth round. Starting up front again, Heung-min scored a multi-goal performance, assisted by James Maddison, to save his team from defeat and reach the historic milestone of 150 goals for Tottenham.
“Reaching 150 goals with you is a special milestone that I’m very proud of and have a lot to be thankful for,” Son said on social media after the game. But the most important thing today is that we showed our unity and fight as a team. We have a lot to be excited about as a team. We would have liked to win the game, but we will come back stronger in our next match.”
Son Heung-min’s performance continued. He started against Liverpool in Round 7 and scored his 200th European goal in the first half of a 0-0 draw. The goal gave Tottenham a 2-1 victory, securing them second place in the league and extending their unbeaten start to the season. The PL Secretariat also recognized Son’s performance by naming him Player of the Match (POTM) for the game. He received an overwhelming 45.7% of the vote, a near-majority. 토토사이트
He also scored his 200th European goal and remained second in the PL scoring charts. With six goals in seven league games this season, Son is second in the league’s scoring charts behind Manchester City’s Elling Holland, who has also been in dominant form this season, with eight goals in seven games.
His stellar performances have earned him a nomination for PL Player of the Month for September. With a staggering six goals in four games, he could very well win the award. If Heung-min wins the award, it will be the fourth time in his career that he has won the award, after winning it in September 2016, April 2017, and October 2020.
Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah has also been nominated for his outstanding performances for Liverpool. “The Liverpool mainstay has scored two goals and provided two assists in four appearances and created 11 chances for his teammates,” the PL secretariat said of Salah.
