“Shakhtar CEO Sergei Falkin said that the club is in talks with Tottenham Hotspur over Solomon’s compensation,” global media outlet ESPN reported on March 3 (KST). Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Solomon terminated his contract with Shakhtar and joined Tottenham as a free agent in accordance with FIFA rules,” ESPN reported.

CEO Falkin told the outlet: “We have had talks with Tottenham. We are in negotiations and hope to find a solution. We want to cover our losses and we want to get the €6.5 million we paid for Solomon in January 2019, which is not a lot of money for Tottenham.”

“We have a great relationship with Tottenham. We even played a preseason friendly with them this summer. We believe that this good relationship will help us find a solution.”

Solomon is an Israeli winger born in 1999. He left the Israeli scene to join Shakhtar in 2019. Slowly making his mark, Solomon made his presence felt in the Ukrainian league in 2020-21, scoring nine goals and providing one assist in 23 appearances.

Last season, he joined Fulham on loan to experience the Premier League (PL). He showed promise, scoring four goals in 19 league appearances. Tottenham expressed interest this summer. Solomon’s strength is his dribbling ability. He can play on both the left and right flanks, making him a good backup or competition for Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusebski.

In early July, transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano wrote: “Tottenham have reached a verbal agreement with Manor Solomon. He will join Tottenham as a free agent. He will join Tottenham as a free agent on a five-year contract.” Solomon joined Tottenham shortly afterward for no transfer fee. 스포츠토토

However, Shakhtar are hopeful that they can reach an agreement with Tottenham to pay the transfer fee. In fact, Solomon would have been unavailable on a free transfer had it not been for FIFA’s special rules in the aftermath of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Solomon’s existing contract runs until December 2023. As such, Shakhtar are hoping to get at least the €6.5 million transfer fee they paid for Solomon. For now, Solomon has settled in nicely with two assists in five league appearances (two starts, three substitutions).
