Hanwha Eagles right-hander Moon Dong-ju has successfully completed his final check before joining the national team.

On Sunday, Moon started the 2023 KBO Futures League home game against the Goyang Heroes at Seosan Baseball Stadium in Chungcheongnam-do, South Korea, and pitched three innings of one-hit ball with three strikeouts and no walks.

Moon, who was making his first start in five days against the LG Twins in Seosan on April 12, cruised from the top of the first inning. He retired leadoff man Kim Jun-wan on a grounder to shortstop after three pitches, then got the next batter, Song Jae-sun, to fly out to center field on a five-pitch count. He struck out the next batter, Ye Jin-won, to end the first inning with 14 pitches.

The first crisis came in the top of the second inning. Moon Dong-joo gave up a single to Lee Se-ho after Kim Woong-bin’s leadoff single to left field, and Lee Ho-yeol reached on a fielder’s choice to load the bases. However, he got himself out of trouble by striking out Jung Hyun-min and Byun Heon-sung with runners on first and second.

Moon Dong-joo, who also pitched in the top of the third, gave up an infield single to Kim Jun-wan after the first batter, Seo Yoo-shin, flied out to right field, but Song Jae-sun’s grounder to center field and Ye Jin-won’s grounder to second base ended the inning without a run. The Hanwha bench sent Kim Bum-jun to the mound in the top of the fourth, and Moon Dong-ju finished the job.

Moon threw 46 pitches in three innings, with 32 strikes and 14 balls. For the second consecutive game, Moon was satisfied with both the performance and the result, following his previous outing against LG Electronics (29 pitches, 2 innings, 2 hits, no walks, 4 strikeouts).

Moon, who joined the KBO last year, went 1-3 with a 5.65 ERA in 13 games and 28⅔ innings in his rookie year, then went 8-8 with a 3.72 ERA in 23 games and 118⅔ innings this year. He was placed on the disabled list in time for the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games baseball team to be called up, and ended his second season with the first-team roster after the Jamsil LG game on March 3.

After two weeks of rest and training following his last first-team appearance, 메이저놀이터 Moon made two Futures League appearances. Now all that’s left is for him to compete under the Taeguk-mark. The Korean National Team will be hoping that Moon will be a big boost on the mound as they look to win their fourth consecutive Asian Games title.

Meanwhile, the baseball team, led by Ryu Jung-il, will train at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul on the 23rd and 24th, before taking a break on the 25th and playing a practice game on the 26th. After the final domestic training session on the 27th, the team will depart for Hangzhou, China the following day.
