The “Korean Monster” Ryu Hyun-jin of the Toronto Blue Jays has been finalized.
The Blue Jays announced their starting pitchers for a three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, Ohio, beginning on April 19. Jose Berrios will break the tape in game one, followed by Chris Bassitt in game two. Hyun-jin Ryu will take the mound on the 20th, the final day of the three-game set.
Since returning to the mound in the second half of the season after undergoing left elbow ligament reconstruction surgery last June, Hyun-jin Ryu has pitched in three games, winning and losing. In his first start of the season, he gave up four runs on nine hits (one home run) in five innings with one walk and three strikeouts against the Baltimore Orioles on Aug. 2.
On Aug. 8, he tossed four scoreless innings against the Cleveland Indians with one walk and two strikeouts, but was forced to leave the mound early after being struck in the right knee by a hard hit ball from Oscar Gonzalez. Fortunately, the knee was unharmed and he returned to the mound on April 14 against the Chicago Cubs.
Ryu threw five innings of two-hit ball against a strong Cubs lineup, allowing two runs (unearned) on five hits with two walks and three strikeouts, his first win in 444 days since May 27 against the Los Angeles Angels.
After tasting the joy of victory after 444 days, Ryu said, “I’m really happy. Everything went smoothly from the rehabilitation process and I’m satisfied with the results,” he said. “All my pitches are working as I want them to, so I’m getting good results,” said Ryu, who threw a no-hitter for the second straight game. 안전놀이터
“He didn’t have as much velocity as he wanted, but he was impressive against the Cubs’ hard-hitting lineup,” said the Toronto Star, a Canadian media outlet. “His average velocity was lower than in 2021, but he made up for it with command and off-speed pitches.”
Starting against Ryu will be second-year big leaguer Hunter Green. After going 5-13 with a 4.44 ERA in his big league debut last year, Green is 2-4 this season. His ERA is 3.93.
