Police in Gwangju have stepped up their response to a post online suggesting that explosives were planted at major sports and cultural facilities in the city.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Gwangju Northern Police Station received a report at 4:50 p.m. on Aug. 8 that an explosive device was posted online.
Without mentioning a specific area, the post read, “Don’t go to the department store baseball field terminal train station today. Warning. They’re all going off today. I have 7 in total,” it warned.
After receiving the report, police responded by increasing patrols and deploying more than 50 troops to Kia Champions Field in Gwangju, which is hosting a KBO regular season game between the LG Twins and KIA Tigers.
Police have also reportedly increased their vigilance at Gwangjungsongjeong Station and Gwangju Shinsegae Department Store, as well as at multiple clustered locations across the country.
So far, no unusual trends have been identified. The police plan to track down the person who wrote the post.
Earlier, on the 5th, at Samsung Lions Park in Daegu, where Samsung and LG are hosting a KBO game, a person wrote, “I will stab dozens of people to death. Be prepared,” was posted on the KBO’s official application, prompting riot police, commandos, and local police to respond to the scene.
The recent stabbings at Shinlim and Seohyeon stations have raised public anxiety about the crime, and police are actively investigating the threats. 먹튀검증
